Services

Access
People of all nationalities are allowed access to the library and its facilities. Visitors may enter certain rooms provided they do not disturb people who are working or reading. The following rooms are open to the public: Sala Beato Giovanni XXIII, Sala Ritratti, Sala Catalogo, Salone Furiette, Sala Periodici, Sala Tassiana.

Consulting the Library Materials
The entire Library collection may be requested for consultation. An identity document is required to access Library materials. To consult materials that are very old, rare or valuable, as well as documents from the archives, you must be at least 16 years old.
Reference materials, both old and modern, manuscripts, archives, music scores, iconography and periodicals may be consulted in the rooms open to the public. The Library staff are available to assist readers and researchers in finding the most appropriate materials, both by means of the electronic cataloguing system and the traditional paper one.

Local loans and inter-library loans
In order to borrow some of the modern works housed in the Library, you have to be at least 14 years old and a resident in the province of Bergamo. The loan is free. To request materials from another Italian library or a library abroad, there is a fee.

Reproductions, printing, copying
In compliance with current legal restrictions and with the need to conserve our heritage, we offer the possibility of making copies of the original documents, for research or for publication, both in digital and paper format, at fixed rates.

Internet access
Access to the Internet is available in certain designated areas, in the rooms open to visitors and where there is a wi-fi connection.

Biblioteca Musicale Gaetano Donizetti
This Library, a special branch of the Biblioteca Mai, is located in Via Arena 9. It conserves around 30,000 volumes, comprising manuscripts and printed editions and offers facilities for consultation, reproduction, listening, loans, bibliographic research and musical reference.
